3D HUMAN SURFACE ANATOMY LABELING SYSTEM

Human surface anatomy labeling plays an important role in helping physicians, students and medical personnel discuss and exchange medical data that involves human surface anatomy. Conditions that affect the skin such as chronic rashes, lesions, cancers, abrasions, burns, etc. are treated differently based on their diagnosis, region and severity. As of today, The Anatomy Mapper Web application and the NYU Human Surface Anatomy Labeling systems are two popular labeling systems used by U.S. hospitals. We have ex-tended these surface anatomy labeling systems to 3D by segmenting anatomical regions on a human 3D model. 3D visualization of human surface anatomy brings an ease-of-use and precision that has been heretofore difficult to achieve when using just images alone. We have demonstrated its usefulness by creating an interactive mobile Web platform for 3D human surface anatomy visualization and labeling.
